The NIDCR offers this grant to support the second iteration of the FaceBase Consortium, a vital initiative established in 2009 to advance craniofacial research. The Consortium aims to create and disseminate comprehensive datasets, analytical tools, and resources concerning craniofacial development and dysmorphologies to the broader scientific community. This funding opportunity seeks new “spoke projects” that will contribute experimental data, annotation, tools, and other resources to FaceBase’s central data management hub for public sharing. Proposed projects must align with FaceBase’s overarching goals of data collection, coordination, and integration, while complementing existing resources. The focus remains on normal craniofacial development and dysmorphology, with high priority given to studies on facial, palatal, and cranial vault development.

Description: | The NIDCR-funded FaceBase Consortium (www.facebase.org) was established in 2009 to advance craniofacial research by creating comprehensive datasets on craniofacial development and dysmorphologies and disseminating them to the wider craniofacial research community. Operationally, the Consortium links individual spoke projects, each creating and contributing comprehensive datasets, analytic tools, and other resources to a central data management and integration hub which, in turn, disseminates them publicly. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits grant applications for a new round of spoke projects that will comprise the Consortiums second iteration. New projects should be consistent with FaceBases overall goals of experimental data collection and annotation, data coordination, and integration. New projects should also be complementary to, rather than duplicative of, the types of data, analytic tools, and resources already available through FaceBase. The Consortium will continue to focus on normal craniofacial development and dysmorphology but this FOA is open to applications investigating parts of the skull beyond the midface and palate. High programmatic priority will be given to studies of facial, palatal, and cranial vault development and dysmorphology. |
