The BLM CA is offering this grant to support an environmental education and science program at its Atwell Island Property. This grant is for the purpose of engaging over 100 Alpaugh Unified School District students, under the direction of a science teacher, in hands-on conservation efforts. Students will coordinate two annual restoration projects and conduct field trips. These projects aim to restore critical habitats like saltbush scrub, grasslands, wetlands, and riparian areas. The initiative yields multiple ecosystem benefits, supporting the recovery of state and federally listed, at-risk, threatened, and endangered species, including the blunt-nosed leopard lizard and San Joaquin kit fox, alongside migratory birds and endemic species.
