The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), specifically its Division of Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic Diseases (DKUHD), is offering this grant to establish approximately two or three Special Studies Centers (SSCs). This grant is for the purpose of conducting critical biomedical or economic studies focused on late-stage Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and dialysis patients. The selected SSCs will collaborate closely with the United States Renal Data System (USRDS), designing, piloting, and executing at least one dedicated special study, in addition to thoroughly analyzing existing datasets. The USRDS Coordinating Center will oversee overall project coordination. This initiative represents a joint effort involving NIH/NIDDK, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the broader nephrology community, aiming to advance research in this vital area.
