The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is offering grants under its National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP). This program seeks proposals from institutions to create a comprehensive national, digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1836 and 1922. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at the Library of Congress (LC) and made freely accessible online. Awarded organizations, one per U.S. state or territory, will collaborate with state partners to select and digitize approximately 100,000 pages, primarily from microfilm, adhering to LC technical guidelines. Priority is given to new projects, though continued support for existing endeavors and collaborations are encouraged to expand this vital historical archive.
