The Office of Strategic Coordination, National Institutes of Health, is offering this U42 grant to fund institutions/organizations for knockout mouse production and cryopreservation. The grant’s purpose is to convert International Knockout Mouse Consortiums embryonic stem cell libraries into mice, perform quality control, and cooperatively send these mice to successful grantees for phenotyping. Additionally, recipients will cryopreserve germplasm from these mice and send aliquots to the KOMP repository. The overall objective is to generate crucial resources required by NIH-funded Mouse Phenotyping Centers, enabling them to produce functional information for every protein-coding gene in the mammalian genome. Up to $12.4 million per year is available, with 1-3 awards anticipated over a maximum of five years.

| Description: | Purpose. This FOA issued by the Office of Strategic Coordination, National Institutes of Health, solicits grant applications from institutions/ organizations that propose to convert the International Knockout Mouse Consortiums knockout embryonic stem (ES) cell libraries (www.komp.org and www.eummcr.org), into mice, perform quality control (QC) on the imported materials and subsequent products, cooperatively send the mice to the successful grantees under RFA-RM-10-011 for phenotyping, and cryopreserve germplasm of those mice and send aliquots to the KOMP repository. The overall objective of this FOA is to generate the resources needed by NIH-funded Mouse Phenotyping Centers to produce functional information for each protein coding gene in the mammalian genome as described in RFA-RM-10-011. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the U42 award mechanism and runs in parallel with two additional FOAs that solicits applications under the U54 award mechanism (RFA-RM-10-012, RFA-RM-10-011).
