Additional Information

Agency Name:: National Institutes of Health
Description:: The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) encourages grant applications from institutions/organizations for Research Centers in Injury and Peri-operative Sciences (RCIPS). The program is meant to provide support to 1) improve understanding at all levels of the biological processes invoked after traumatic or burn injury, or in critically ill patients, including molecular and cellular, physiological, and multilevel integration of homeostatic loss and recovery, including pertinent aspects of wound healing; and 2) foster translational research, bringing basic scientific observations and principles into the clinical arena and using clinical observations to generate or validate mechanistic hypotheses. Applications should be built around a common theme for investigation. RCIPS applications may include interventional studies only if there is connection, harmonization and synergy with the biological and physiological processes under investigation. An application that solely proposes an interventional clinical trial would not be appropriate for this funding mechanism. Contact with the NIGMS program official at initial stages of program planning is strongly encouraged.
