Description:: The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage investigator-initiated multidisciplinary R01 research projects to define interactions between the host and the gut microbiota that regulate normal physiology and pathophysiology of diseases within NIDDK’s mission. The goal of the research projects is to discover specific human gut microbiota-derived factors that affect or are affected by host physiology (including diet/nutrition), homeostasis, and disease pathophysiology. Proposed projects will also define the specific interactions and pathways by which microbiota-derived factors affect host processes within the gut and/or at distant organ sites.
