Description:

The Public Diplomacy Section of the Palestinian Affairs Unit (PAU-PD) of the U.S. Department of State announces a grant through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for open competition for non-profit organizations to submit applications to develop and implement capacity building programs in the field of journalism and modern media.

Proposed projects should advance the goals and objectives of this funding opportunity and the PAU-PD mission specifically to advance a comprehensive and lasting peace through a negotiated two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the development of a vibrant, representative, and responsive Palestinian civil society, private sector, and governing institutions through substantive engagement with American people, institutions, ideas, and ideals to improve American-Palestinian relations and create greater opportunities for mutually beneficial partnership and cooperation.

Notice of Funding Opportunity

A. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Priority Region: Jerusalem, West Bank, and Gaza.

Program Objectives:

All proposed projects must aim to advance the PAU-PD mission goals stated above, contain a substantive American element, and achieve one or more of the following specific objectives:

• Improve writing skills for journalists in specialized fields such as gender issues, entrepreneurship and business, economics, technology, foreign policy, democracy, and human rights, environmental issues, and other issues of interest to the United States and

Palestinians;

• Increase journalists’ capacity to manage trauma and work in conflict zones successfully and safely;

• Improve journalists’ understanding of modern media management techniques and digital literacy, and their ability to successfully navigate the quickly changing media market and platforms, such as media digitization and the development of online platforms;

  • Improve media literacy and combat mis/disinformation among new and student journalists and the general public, including by increasing exposure of participants to American perspectives that widen their understanding of press freedoms and ethics;

• Increase awareness and understanding of American culture, media, society, history and/or current events, as well as of shared American-Palestinian values and interests.
