The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is offering financial assistance under the Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971 to promote cooperative efforts in recreational boating safety. This grant is for supporting National Recreational Boating Safety Program activities. While most funds are allocated to states and U.S. territories, up to 5% of the total annual state financial assistance is specifically set aside for awards to eligible national nonprofit public service organizations. This funding aims to enhance and expand crucial boating safety initiatives across the nation by leveraging the expertise and outreach of qualified non-profit entities, thereby improving overall public safety on waterways.

Description: | The Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971 [recodified under Title 46, United States Code] gave the USCG new authority to deal with the large growth in recreational boating, including new programs for boat construction standards, boat defect correction oversight, boat operator requirements, and state financial assistance. The state financial assistance program was established to promote cooperative efforts between the USCG and states boating safety programs.
