This grant is for enhancing criminal justice system integrity by supporting wrongful conviction review (WCR) entities and conviction integrity or review units (CIUs). It enables these units to review individual cases with post-conviction claims of innocence. A key component is selecting a training and technical assistance (TTA) provider to equip WCR and CIU entities with essential skills, training, and information on the latest practices to safeguard conviction integrity. The TTA provider will also support post-conviction reviews and build and maintain a critical database of exonerations for the field. This initiative aims to uphold the rule of law and prevent future wrongful convictions, strengthening the justice system.
