Agency Name: U.S. Mission to Australia
Description:

The U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste through the public affairs section announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to implement a workshop and speech competition focused on the 20th anniversary of U.S.-Timorese diplomatic relations. Over the course of 2022, the U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste will implement a campaign entitled “Friends, Partners, Opportunities” to mark the 20th anniversary of U.S.-Timorese diplomatic relations. The campaign is designed to engage emerging Timorese leaders between the ages of 18-25 to position our democratic partnership with Timor-Leste as one that delivers positive results for people and that is essential for expanding opportunity.

As part of this campaign, the recipient would convene a three-day workshop that:

·        Brings together between 20-25 emerging Timorese leaders between the ages of 18-25 from diverse educational backgrounds or professions who are likely to take on future leadership roles in Timor-Leste and become advocates for the U.S.-Timorese partnership.

·        Increases understanding of the first 20 years of the U.S.-Timorese partnership and U.S. foreign policy goals in Timor-Leste

·        Fosters dialogue for participants to develop policy-focused proposals to strengthen the next 20 years of the U.S.-Timorese partnership and expand and deepen bilateral cooperation.

·        Culminates in a speech competition for the top five participants to describe what the U.S.-partnership means to them and what they see as important for the future of our relationship.

Anticipated Outcomes

The workshop will build participant skills in leadership, policy development and advocacy and public speaking. After the program, 90 percent of participants believe that the United States is an essential partner for expanding opportunity in Timor-Leste and 80 percent of participants become advocates for U.S. values and policies.
