The U.S. Department of Justice’s COPS Office offers the School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) grant, providing critical funding to states, local governments, Indian tribes, and their public agencies. This initiative aims to significantly improve security at schools and on school grounds through evidence-based safety programs. Funding can be utilized for various essential measures, including fostering coordination with local law enforcement, providing specialized training for officers to prevent student violence, and implementing physical deterrents such as metal detectors, locks, and improved lighting. Additionally, funds support the acquisition of technology for expedited emergency notifications to law enforcement, ensuring a safer educational environment. This grant is designed to build trust between law enforcement and the community while strengthening overall school safety.
