This grant, offered by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), is designed to establish Learning Disabilities Research Centers. Its core purpose is to generate new scientific knowledge that advances the understanding of learning disabilities and their comorbid conditions. The program specifically invites foundational and translational, transdisciplinary research. This research should examine issues related to the etiology, classification, definition, prevention, and remediation of learning disabilities affecting listening, speaking, reading, writing, and mathematics, with particular emphasis on co-occurring conditions. Leveraging the P50 mechanism, this grant encourages richly integrative, multi-method approaches, requiring applicants to propose coordinated, inter-disciplinary research programs that demonstrate strong cohesion and synergy across all subprojects and core activities.
