The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is offering this grant to provide additional funding for critical development and methodological work aimed at enhancing the statistical procedures used for national crime estimates. This grant is for the purpose of advancing the accuracy and scope of national crime estimates derived from the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Since NIBRS became the sole source of information on crimes known to U.S. law enforcement in September 2022, this continued work is vital. The project involves essential system maintenance activities, additional estimation model development, and comprehensive assessment of data for indicators not yet integrated into the initial estimates.
