The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is offering this grant to support revision applications from investigators holding active NINR R01 awards. This grant focuses on research into the genomic underpinnings of response to rehabilitation interventions. The aim is to improve functional abilities and quality of life for individuals with impairments from injury, aging, or chronic illness. Projects should elucidate genomic variants linked to rehabilitation outcomes, or develop and test genomics-based interventions, including those for symptom or self-management. Interdisciplinary collaborations, especially with nurse scientists, are highly encouraged. Eligibility requires an active NINR R01 with at least two years remaining.

Description: | This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites research project grant (R01) revision applications from investigators with active National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) R01 research project grant awards. The NINR seeks research to enhance the understanding of the role of genomic variants and mechanisms in the response to rehabilitation interventions aimed at maintaining, improving, or restoring functional abilities (e.g., activities of daily living) and quality of life in individuals with functional impairments or disabilities resulting from injury, aging, or chronic illness. This research may be carried out by 1) elucidating genomic variants or mechanisms associated with outcomes in individuals receiving rehabilitation interventions, or 2) developing and testing genomics-based rehabilitation interventions, including interventions that promote symptom or self-management as part of a strategy to achieve improved functional abilities. Interdisciplinary collaborations that include nurse scientists in the project team are strongly encouraged. Additionally, applicants should consider engaging the resources and expertise of nearby or otherwise available Clinical and Translational Science Award grant sites (CTSAs) and/or federally funded research centers where possible. In order to apply, the Program Director/Principal Investigator (PD/PI) must currently hold an active R01 from NINR with at least two years left at the time this revision starts. |
