This program aims to support collaborative research centers focusing on co-infections and interactions of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) to advance understanding and knowledge. Through multidisciplinary collaborations, the research will target STI pathogens that cause polymicrobial infections in the urogenital tract. The goal is to discover novel strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of co-infections, polymicrobial infections, and related reproductive health issues. Deadline for applications is November 14, 2013.

| Description:: | The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications for the Sexually Transmitted Infections Cooperative Research Centers (STI CRC) program. The STI CRC program facilitates multidisciplinary, synergistic collaborations that will increase our understanding and further our knowledge of co-infections of two or more specific STIs, as well as the interactions between and among different STI pathogens that may cause or enhance polymicrobial infections of the urogenital tract, e.g., bacterial vaginosis (BV), pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), intraamniotic infection (IAI) and non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU). This collaborative effort is expected to catalyze the discovery of new approaches to prevent, diagnose, and treat co-infections, polymicrobial infections and other clinical outcomes that affect reproductive health. |
