| Description:: | The purpose of the Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award in Tobacco Control Regulatory Research (K08) is to prepare qualified individuals for careers that have a significant impact on and will inform the development and evaluation of regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing. This program provides support and protected time to individuals with a clinical doctoral degree for an intensive, supervised research career development experience in the fields of biomedical and behavioral research, including translational research. Research projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) as mandated by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA), Public Law 111-31. Participating NIH Institutes invite K08 applications from individuals with a clinical doctoral degree. Individuals with the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in clinical disciplines are also eligible. Individuals holding the Ph.D. in a non-clinical discipline who are certified to perform clinical duties should contact the appropriate Institute concerning their eligibility for a K08 award. Candidates should be pursuing careers in research areas supported by the NIH to address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). The awards under this FOA will be administered by NIH using funds made available through the CTP and the FSPTCA (P.L. 111-31). |
