The Department of Interior is offering a cooperative agreement specifically for research aimed at enhancing refugia populations of the endangered Comal Springs dryopid beetle and Peck’s cave amphipod. This grant, a single-source award to BIO-WEST, Incorporated, will support vital research at the San Marcos Aquatic Resources Center. Its core purpose is to deepen understanding of the species’ juvenile development, maturation, and life history. Such insights are crucial for improving captive refugium establishment and survival. Ultimately, the funded research seeks to boost successful pupation rates into adults, significantly aiding the conservation of these vulnerable aquatic invertebrates.
