The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is offering this grant to collaborate with a vendor on the development of a comprehensive vegetation classification and mapping system for Nevada. This initiative aims to establish a robust vegetation classification based on the National Vegetation Classification System (NVCS), utilizing extensive field data. Furthermore, the project involves creating detailed vegetation maps derived from aerial photography and the newly developed classification. The USFWS anticipates substantial joint involvement throughout the project lifecycle, including co-developing the classification system, translating it into mappable units, and leading the quality control and map accuracy processes. This grant is for assisting the USFWS in enhancing Nevada’s ecological understanding and resource management through accurate vegetation data.
