This grant is for establishing and developing a Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) along the Southern Oregon Coast. Currently, land managers, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Forest Service, Oregon State Parks, and various timber companies, manage noxious weeds individually, leading to fragmented efforts. The purpose of this initiative is to formalize and strengthen collaboration among these entities and the Coos County Weed Advisory Board. By coordinating efforts, the CWMA will enable improved prioritization of weed inventory, infestations, and treatments. This collaboration is designed to significantly enhance the efficacy and success of regional weed control. The BLM has committed to providing office space for a dedicated Coordinator to facilitate this crucial cooperation.

Agency Name: | Bureau of Land Management |
Description: | Land managers within the Oregon Coast physiographic province control noxious weeds individually. Occasionally cooperative treatments with a few land managers are done successfully. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Forest Service, Coos County Weed Advisory Board, Oregon State Parks and some timber companies all have a need for cooperative weed management with adjacent landowners and have verbally agreed to work together within the framework of a Cooperative Weed Management Area. Coordination and development of a Cooperative Weed Management Area will bring land managers together and formalize cooperation and prioritization of inventory, infestations, and treatments to improve efficacy and weed control success. BLM has agreed to provide office space for a Coordinator. |
