This Housing Department grant is offering the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) to national and regional non-profit organizations and consortia. This grant is for facilitating innovative homeownership for low-income homebuyers through self-help housing initiatives. Funds can be utilized for land acquisition, infrastructure development, and related planning/administrative costs, with a cap of $15,000 per dwelling unit for these combined expenses. Construction costs must be covered by other leveraged public and private funds. A key requirement is that homebuyers contribute substantial sweat equity towards their units, which must be decent, safe, and sold below market price. The program aims to make homeownership accessible by leveraging community and individual efforts.
