Additional Information

Agency Name: Fish and Wildlife Service
Description: Tasks to be performed on this project: gather detailed scientific information on grizzly bear physiology and nutrition in order to facilitate decisions for the recovery of wild bears in accordance with the
Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act of 1958, 16 U.S.C. 661-667 and the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1531-1543). The bears located and held at this facility are covered by an Endangered Species Recovery Permit (TE047283-1). The work will provide direct and valuable information on the nutritional ecology of grizzly bears to the public, as well as multiple applications to advance grizzly recovery. The work provides direct and valuable information on the nutritional ecology of grizzly bears and the information developed is used for multiple applications to advance grizzly bear recovery. The products coming out of this work allow us to understand how to measure stable isotopes in bear hair, blood, and tissue to know what the bears have been eating. From this work, we can also measure the percentage of fate in every bear we handle so we know how the bears are doing in good and bad food years and in certain habitats.
