Additional Information on Eligibility: This financial assistance opportunity is being issued under the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) program. CESUs are partnerships that provide research, technical assistance, and education. Eligible applicants must be a participating partner of the Californian CESU. Additionally, this announcement is limited to applicants located within the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area or the Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, CA Metropolitan Statistical Areas, as defined in Office of Management and Budget Bulletin 15-01.

Description: The National Park Service (NPS) is requesting proposals from potential academic partners to collaborate in a project to update a visitor trail use survey and use assessment tools to determine the current recreational trail use for Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (park) in southern California. The park seeks to understand how recreational trail use is changing in the Santa Monica Mountains by comparing data collected in a 2002 recreational trail use survey to a proposed comparative survey to be conducted in 2018.
