The OSMRE Applied Science Program is offering this grant to fund the development of new science and technology aimed at addressing environmental issues related to coal mining and subsequent land reclamation. This grant specifically seeks applied science proposals that will improve public and environmental health protection. The primary purpose of this funding is to advance projects that benefit the public through activities such as protecting endangered species, enhancing reforestation and re-vegetation efforts, safeguarding prime farmland, and developing improved technologies to mitigate acid mine drainage. It also supports better methods for locating underground mines and strengthens overall public and environmental protection associated with surface coal mining operations.
