This federal grant program, authorized by the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act of 2009, provides financial assistance to states and tribes to address livestock losses due to wolf predation. The grant serves two primary purposes: prevention and compensation. Prevention funding supports proactive, nonlethal activities such as fencing, livestock guard dogs, and range riders, aimed at reducing the risk of livestock loss. Compensation funding reimburses livestock producers for confirmed losses of animals, including cattle, swine, horses, mules, sheep, goats, and livestock guard animals, caused by wolf depredation. This initiative supports eligible activities on federal, state, private, or tribal lands to mitigate impacts on producers.
