The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is offering this grant to fund a critical research initiative focusing on sexual assault forensic exams (SAFEs) and medical forensic exams (MFEs). This grant is for the purpose of designing, conducting, and sharing comprehensive research to understand the landscape of sexual assault medical forensic care. Key areas of investigation include the availability of, and patient access to, trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) and other providers, along with staffing, facility coverage, and barriers to accessing care. The research will also explore state requirements, available SANE training, and the presence of victim advocates. Findings from this initiative will be crucial for an OVW report to Congress, helping to inform and improve sexual assault medical forensic services across the nation.
