Description: The Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), announces the availability of 2.2 million of Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 funds for projects developed by consortia that demonstrate a collaborative approach to creating employment systems change at the state level on behalf of youth and young adults with developmental disabilities (DD) including youth and young adults with intellectual disabilities (ID). As defined by the American Association of Intellectual and Developmental disabilities, the term intellectual disability is characterized by significant limitations in intellectual functioning (reasoning, learning, problem solving) and in adaptive behavior, which covers a range of everyday social and practical skills and originates before the age of 18. Funding through this announcement will be used to design and implement statewide model demonstration projects through Partnerships in Employment Systems Change grants that stimulate and advance systems change in order to expand competitive employment in integrated settings for youth and young adults with DD including ID.

Description: The Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announces the availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 funds to award grants to develop and implement collaborative, innovative statewide approaches to offer youth and young adults with significant developmental and intellectual disabilities (individuals meeting the SSI or combined SSI/SSDI eligibility requirements) meaningful, timely and easy access to holistic transition experiences to competitive, integrated employment.  Access should include career exploration with employers, integrated service learning, internships, benefits and financial planning services, community living services and supports, leadership development, assistive technology, secondary and post-secondary education services, and/or other services and supports provided in competitive, integrated, inclusive settings aimed at maximizing personal and economic independence as youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities transition from education to employment. The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000, Public Law 106-402, Section 161(2)(D)(42 U.S.C. 15081) authorizes “…projects of sufficient size and scope that hold promise to expand or improve opportunities for such individuals including – (vi) projects that provide aid to transition youth with developmental disabilities from school to adult life, especially in finding employment and post secondary education opportunities…”
