Description: | The Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announces the availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 funds to award grants to develop and implement collaborative, innovative statewide approaches to offer youth and young adults with significant developmental and intellectual disabilities (individuals meeting the SSI or combined SSI/SSDI eligibility requirements) meaningful, timely and easy access to holistic transition experiences to competitive, integrated employment. Access should include career exploration with employers, integrated service learning, internships, benefits and financial planning services, community living services and supports, leadership development, assistive technology, secondary and post-secondary education services, and/or other services and supports provided in competitive, integrated, inclusive settings aimed at maximizing personal and economic independence as youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities transition from education to employment. The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000, Public Law 106-402, Section 161(2)(D)(42 U.S.C. 15081) authorizes “…projects of sufficient size and scope that hold promise to expand or improve opportunities for such individuals including – (vi) projects that provide aid to transition youth with developmental disabilities from school to adult life, especially in finding employment and post secondary education opportunities…” |
