Additional Information on Eligibility: | Limited eligibility. This announcement seeks to continue the Environmental Health Specialists Network (EHS-Net) research activities. Because of the unique purpose of EHS-Net, which is to provide regulatory officials with science and data to implement policies and regulations that protect communities from foodborne outbreaks and to provide communities with safe food, eligibility can only be offered to State and local programs that can establish the necessary level of collaboration across multiple state and local agencies to accomplish the purpose and goals of EHS-Net. This is because State and local agencies are unique in that they are the only entities with responsibility and authority to govern, regulate, deliver and/or implement policies for environmental health services. As such, no other business, university, organization, etc. will be able to lead collaborative efforts to change or improve the delivery of environmental health programs. All health agency applicants must have or establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the health agency and/or state or local Department of Agriculture. This is important because agricultural departments and state health agencies are the primary agencies within the states with responsibility for governing, setting policies and regulating food. Having both agencies involved in the research activities will help ensure that we are maximizing our ability to reduce foodborne illness. The MOU must be submitted with the application. If your application is incomplete or non-responsive to the special requirements listed in this section, it will be considered ineligible. |
