This grant is for generating new scientific information crucial for Federal regulatory agencies to make science-based decisions on the environmental introduction of genetically engineered organisms (GE). It supports investigations into the effects of releasing various GE forms, including plants, microorganisms (fungi, bacteria, viruses), arthropods, fish, birds, mammals, and other animals (excluding humans), across both managed and natural environments. The Biotechnology Risk Assessment Grants (BRAG) Program specifically aims to provide Federal regulators with essential scientific data to address complex regulatory issues, ensuring informed oversight of biotechnology and its environmental implications.
