This grant, offered by the AFRL Sensors Directorate, Directed Energy Directorate, and AFOSR, seeks to establish a Center of Excellence in laser-based remote sensing and communications. Its primary purpose is to advance Air Force capabilities in this domain through a combination of basic and applied research. Key areas of focus include free-space communication and remote sensing beyond the diffraction-limited range of optical apertures, across relevant wavelength regimes. The ideal recipient will demonstrate substantial experience in educating students in these technical areas. Additionally, the grant requires a commitment to widely disseminate research outcomes to the technical community via frequent workshops, publications, and presentations, fostering collaborative progress and innovation for Air Force applications.

Description: | AFRL Sensors Directorate (AFRL/RY), Directed Energy Directorate (AFRL/RD) and AFOSR seek an applicant to provide a Center of Excellence in the development of laser-based remote sensing and communications for Air Force applications. It is anticipated that the successful bidder will propose tasks in both the basic and applied research domains associated with the broad category of remote sensing and free-space communication beyond the diffraction-limited range of a real optical aperture. Wavelength regimes of interest are those consistent with remote sensing and communications for Air Force applications. It is also anticipated that the successful bidder will have significant experience in education of students in technical areas of interest. The successful bidder will also demonstrate a willingness to make results of research available to the technical community at large through activities such as frequent workshops, publications and presentations at conferences. |
