The Alaska Department of Earth Sciences is offering a grant to support the project ‘Sustaining USArray Capabilities in Alaska’ by adopting and integrating 43 EarthScope USArray seismic stations in Alaska. The grant aims to transfer stewardship of these stations to the Alaska Earthquake Center for efficient real-time operation and integration into their regional seismic network. This initiative will enhance seismic monitoring in Alaska. Closing date for applications is August 30, 2019.

Description: | Notice of Intent to award a cooperative agreement to the University of Alaska Fairbanks in support of the project entitled “Sustaining USArray Capabilities in Alaska”. The main objective of this project is to adopt 43 of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) temporary EarthScope USArray seismic stations in Alaska. Forty-three seismic stations that are part of NSF’s temporary EarthScope USArray deployment in Alaska will transition to the stewardship of the Alaska Earthquake Center. The transfer of formal acquisition and ownership of 43 seismic stations to AEC will allow these sites to be integrated into AEC’s routine regional seismic network operations and for them to be adapted to the most efficient and cost effective real-time operation as quasi-permanent installations. AEC will sustain the 43 seismic stations for data collection purposes in order to benefit seismic monitoring in Alaska.
