The U.S. Mission to Mozambique has recently announced the opening of applications for the 2024 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) Grants, identified by the funding opportunity number AF-MAP-PD-FY24-02. This initiative represents a significant commitment to the preservation and protection of cultural heritage worldwide. The AFCP Grants Program is focused on supporting a wide range of projects, including the conservation of archaeological sites, historic buildings and monuments, museum collections, and various forms of traditional cultural expression like indigenous languages and crafts.
With an estimated total program funding of $500,000, the AFCP aims to fund approximately three awards, with an individual award ceiling of $500,000 and a floor of $10,000. This program is open to various applicants, including non-governmental organizations, not-for-profit museums, educational institutions, ministries of culture, and U.S. based non-profit organizations. The types of projects eligible for funding are diverse, ranging from anastylosis (the reassembly of a site from its original parts) to stabilization measures that reduce the physical disturbance of a site or object. This grants program not only aims to preserve physical sites and objects but also seeks to safeguard intangible cultural heritage, ensuring its transmission to future generations.
