The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), a component of the U.S. Department of Justice, is offering this grant to strengthen the nation’s Medical Examiner-Coroner (ME/C) system. This program is designed to enhance the quality of medicolegal death investigations (MDIs) nationwide and increase the number of qualified forensic pathologists, thereby supporting civil rights and public safety. Funding is available for two primary purposes: supporting up to two forensic pathology fellowships per application to cultivate specialized expertise, and providing essential resources to ME/C offices seeking to achieve or maintain professional accreditation. This initiative underscores the DOJ’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring comprehensive, reliable death investigations across the United States. The application closing date is April 10, 2024.
