The BLM-Alaska, Glennallen Field Office is offering a grant to assist non-profit and Native village partners in remote locations to provide youth with opportunities in natural resource management and outdoor education. With limited resources and distance from headquarters, the partners struggle to conduct programs and access educational materials. This grant aims to support programs that teach youth about BLM land, resource management, outdoor survival, and safety. By providing financial assistance, the grant seeks to enhance existing programs or create new initiatives that educate youth about natural resources and the stewardship of public lands. Closing date for applications is August 29, 2016.

| Description: | Many of our non-profit and Native village partners are in remote locations and are far removed from our office headquarters. They are working to provide opportunities for youth in natural resource management and to build skills in outdoor survival, safety, subsistence, and resource knowledge. They have limited funding, transportation, and educational materials to conduct programs for youth and unable to travel to current BLM-sponsored programs or activities. Additionally, BLM has difficulty sending staff to each of these rural locations each year to provide hands on outdoor education, but the BLM does have resources that can be shared with organizations and village partners for the purpose of youth programs and events that help to teach youth about BLM land and resource management. Financial assistance would create or enhance existing programs that work to achieve these mutually beneficial goals of providing youth opportunities to learn about natural resources and stewardship of these resources and public lands. |
