The Bureau of Land Management California Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit at the University of California, Los Angeles is providing a grant to document hybridization dynamics and develop conservation management strategies for hybrid salamanders at Fort Ord. This project aims to track the movement of marker genes from two salamander species over the Fort Ord landscape by comparing data from pond samples taken in 2004 and 2014. Insights gained from this study will help predict the future spread of non-native genomic characteristics and inform conservation efforts for these unique species.

| Description:: | To document the hybridization dynamics and develop conservation management of hybrid salamanders at Fort Ord. This project will characterize the temporal movement of marker genes from the two salamanders across the Fort Ord landscape. By resampling the Fort Ord ponds in 2014 and compare results from 2004, the advance of both hybrid swarm and SI genes during the last decade can be mapped and insights gained into the likelihood and projected rate of additional non-native genomic spread in the future. |
