Description: | The Idaho Natural Heritage Program, part of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, has cooperated in the past in a variety of federal and non-federal partnerships regarding botanical surveys and conservation/restoration efforts, especially for Endangered Species Act-listed, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Sensitive, and rare plants occurring in Idaho. (These various categories are usually referred to collectively as special status plants species.) The Idaho Natural Heritage Program maintains a master data list and GIS mapping effort for special status plants occurring in Idaho.
The Idaho Natural Heritage Program performs the following kinds of functions: Research, monitoring and inventory of species or habitats of special concern; implementation of habitat improvement projects, development and implementation of species conservation and recovery plans; environmental education; conservation projects for native plant communities, and eradication of noxious and other weeds in special habitat areas. In addition, administration and management of rare species tabular and spatial data are a central activity of the Idaho Natural Heritage Program. With assistance from the Idaho Natural Heritage Program, the BLM¿s CDAFO Plant Conservation/Restoration Program will be implemented through a variety of important projects throughout the CDAFO management area such as resource inventory, monitoring, and research; environmental education; habitat and plant community restoration; and tabular and spatial data administration and management.
