Description:: The project’s primary objective is to support riparian educational efforts that target young people, with an emphasis on using the islands that the BLM manages in Wisconsin. Applications will be scored and ranked using these criteria to measure how thoroughly the project meets the objective:
1. Curriculum – which of the following will the project teach: invasive species ecology; aquatic ecology; water quality; outdoor/survival skills; leave-no-trace outdoor ethics (projects covering multiple topics will score high). (25 points).
2. Outdoor exposure – projects that involve multiple visits to or extended trips on waterways will score high. (25 points)
3. Audience – what is the proposed project’s target audience, and how many young people will the proposed project reach? Projects that have an audience secured or sound recruitment plans will score high. (25 points)
4. Location – what waters will be used in the proposed project? Projects using BLM islands in Wisconsin are welcome to contact the BLM at 414-297-4416 to discuss potential island locations for youth education. If using BLM islands, identify them by the name of the map (see BLM website) and the island number(s). (10 points)
5. Budget and partnerships – what partners are involved in the project, how is each partner involved? What other sources of funding or in-kind support are anticipated or guaranteed to the project? Complete the attached table listing all funds and in-kind support anticipated for the proposed project (10 points)
6. Contingency – how will the project ensure that trips to waterways will not be cancelled due to weather? Projects that can adapt to extreme weather by modifying their timing and/or location will score high. (5 points)
