This grant is for partnering with the BLM Northeastern States District Office to manage and enhance public access and recreational use on approximately 86 federally-owned islands in Lake Vermilion and surrounding lakes in Minnesota. Due to the significant distance from the managing office in Milwaukee, effective oversight has been challenging. The Bureau of Land Management seeks a challenge cost-share agreement to support recreational management, facilitate public education, and conduct outreach on these remote islands. The objective is to ensure sustainable public use and address management needs, building upon previous agreements for island monitoring and waste removal.
