This BLM OR-WA grant aims to restore aquatic habitat and improve stream function within the Upper Rickreall Watershed. The project will foster partnerships with local individuals, organizations, and volunteers to install approximately 60 large log structures in Rickreall Creek. This intervention will increase channel complexity, trap migratory sediments, and enhance floodplain interaction, thereby creating improved summer and winter rearing habitat for native cutthroat trout and anadromous coho salmon. Over the long term, the initiative will also increase water retention in the creek’s bed and banks, consequently improving municipal water availability, aligning with Clean Water Act objectives.
