| Description: | In 2013, BLM administered lands in the San Juan Islands Archipelago were designated the San Juan Islands National Monument for the important and unique historical, cultural, and natural values that occur on the lands within the Monument. Management of historical and cultural objects and values within the Monument is needed to ensure they are maintained and protected for the benefit of the American public. Intensive cultural resource inventory is needed to identify resources that contribute to the important cultural objects and values for which the Monument was designated. Archaeological Field schools provide opportunities in conducting cultural resources investigation. Completion of an archaeological field school is a requirement for students pursuing future employment as an archaeologist or cultural resource professional.
The overall objective of a fieldschool is to collect data that would identify important cultural properties and benefit future management of BLM administered lands at Iceberg Point in the San Juan Islands National Monument. Specific objectives would include but not be limited to: (1) Identification of important cultural resources and values through intensive inventory of approximately 100 acres of BLM administered land; |
