Additional Information

Agency Name: Bureau of Land Management
Description: Locally adapted, genetically appropriate, native plants for pollinators and restoration projects are scarce due to limited supply that is not sufficient to meet current demand within reasonable time frames. Plant material grown locally is more adapted to the area conditions, are less likely to introduce invasive plants that are not already present, and have the advantage of being able to out-compete plant material grown in other environments not necessarily suited to the southern Oregon coast. Education and outreach to the general public regarding the creation of viable, productive plant communities and sustainable ecosystems will provide an appreciation for the importance of enhancing native pollinatorâ¿¿s habitats in order to facilitate species survival for future generations.

The objective of this project is to create a sustainable supply of locally adapted native plant material for restoration and habitat enhancement projects and to provide declining native pollinators with the necessary host plants in order to facilitate species survival. Additionally this program is to produce educational materials and conduct outreach programs for youth and the general public, and to promote landowner participation and community awareness of native plants and native pollinators and their necessary roles in sustaining viable and productive ecosystems.
