The Bureau of Land Management in Oregon and Washington is offering the Salmon River Aquatic Habitat Restoration Grant to support ongoing efforts in habitat restoration. The grant aims to increase side channel and mainstem habitat complexity and diversity, enhance river flow connections, and construct large wood habitat structures. Through these actions, the project seeks to improve aquatic habitat conditions, promote gravel deposition, and recruit naturally occurring large wood for the benefit of the Salmon River ecosystem. The closing date for applications is August 06, 2013.

Description:: | The Salmon River Aquatic Habitat Restoration project is an ongoing habitat restoration effort. Objectives of planned restoration actions are to increase side channel habitat, increase side channel/off channel habitat complexity and diversity, and increase mainstem habitat complexity and diversity. Connection of river flows to side channel and off-channel habitat will be enhanced by constructing a large wood habitat structure at a side channel inlet to maintain and improve side channel connection and recruit naturally occurring large wood. Large wood habitat structures will also be placed in this side channel, and where a second side channel returns to the main channel to restore habitat complexity and diversity by creating and enhancing scour pools, increasing hydraulic complexity and velocity refugia, promoting gravel deposition, and recruiting naturally occurring large wood. |
