Additional Information

Agency Name: Bureau of Land Management
Description: A. Project Background Information:
The Bureau of Land Management, Wyoming State Office, intends to award a cooperative agreement with the University of Wyoming to obtain information that provides guidance for management decisions such as removal of hybrids most likely to produce genome swamping of fish species. Next-generation sequence data will be generated from Muddy Creek suckers using AFLP genetic techniques. Additionally, this agreement will help establish criteria for selection of BLM-sensitive fish species that are as genetically pure as possible for stocking, captive rearing, and other management objectives.

B. Project Objective:
The University of Wyoming will work to complete the following tasks:

1: Next-generation DNA sequencing
2: Identification of genetic regions important to ongoing hybridization between natives and non-natives
3: Admixture mapping of important phenotypic traits
4: Identification of candidate genes
5: Provide information useful to managers and biologists concerned with native fisheries management.

Products of the project include 1) a manuscript describing the highlights of the hybridization architecture analysis plus associations to the zebrafish and stickleback reference geneomes and 2) information on single nucleotide polymorphisms which will supply material for additional analyses regarding hybridization of catostomids in the Colorado River Basin.

C. Period of Agreement: 1 year
