The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is offering this grant to develop next-generation animal telemetry systems. This grant is for the purpose of creating a global ultra-low energy positioning system using satellite-borne Time-of-Arrival (TOA) receive systems. These will work in tandem with terrestrial and marine transmitters and auxiliary TOA receivers. BOEM seeks teams with demonstrated expertise in low-power TOA positioning and CubeSat design and operations. The technology will enable critical movement studies, providing data that directly feeds into BOEM’s environmental assessments and decision documents, thereby enhancing understanding of marine ecosystems.
