This grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ Youth Programs Division supports public and private non-profit organizations to facilitate virtual exchanges. The purpose is to connect U.S. secondary schools and youth centers with international counterparts. Two distinct projects are offered: Global Connections 2.0, focusing on collaboration between U.S. and Middle East/North Africa students and educators on global themes; and Global Connections Afghanistan, linking U.S. and Afghan youth for dialogue and discovery. Applicants for the latter must have an in-country partner. This initiative aims to foster understanding and collaboration among youth globally through online forums and joint projects.

Description: | The Youth Programs Division, Office of Citizen Exchanges, of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces an open competition for two discrete projects under the Global Connections and Exchange (GCE) Program. Public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to implement and facilitate virtual exchanges between U.S. secondary schools and/or youth centers and similar sites overseas. The new Global Connections 2.0 program will engage students and educators in the Middle East and North Africa and their counterparts in the United States. Eligible countries and territories include: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The program will include the selection and training of participants and the provision of a curriculum that facilitates collaboration around global themes. Applicant organizations should be able to implement the program across the region, but do not necessarily need to have capacity or presence in all of the eligible countries. Where they do not, they will provide a mechanism for interested U.S. Embassies (and Consulates) to facilitate the involvement of schools or other educational and informational centers, such as American Corners. The Global Connections Afghanistan program will link students and teachers in the United States and Afghanistan online in order to promote dialogue and discovery among youth in these two societies. Applicant organizations will select, train, and match the secondary school participants and provide a structured online forum for facilitated discussion and joint projects. Applicants must have their own partner organization or branch office in Afghanistan. |
