The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wyoming State Office is offering this grant to Brigham Young University to conduct a comprehensive study on the Northern Leatherside. This grant is for investigating the complex relationship between land use patterns, habitat structure, and the population dynamics of this species. Specifically, the research aims to determine how habitat characteristics influence year-round occupancy, reproduction, and recruitment. Furthermore, it will explore the connections between population changes and the impacts of land use, including habitat alteration, increased sedimentation, and temperature variations. This cooperative agreement is anticipated to span a period of two to five years, with opportunities for continued funding contingent upon satisfactory progress and budget availability, not exceeding 60 months.

Description: | The Bureau of Land Management, Wyoming State Office, intends to award a cooperative agreement with Brigham Young University, Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, to study the relationship among land use patterns, habitat structure, and population dynamics of the Northern Leatherside. Specifically, the study is aimed at determining how habitat structure influences year-round occupancy, reproduction, and recruitment. Secondly, it will relate population dynamics to effects of land use through habitat change, sedimentation, and temperature change.
The anticipated length of the project is a two to five year period. The BLM will consider continued funding for the project upon (a) the recipient showing progress satisfactory to the BLM toward program goals and the determination by the BLM that continuation of the program would be in the best interest of the Government or (b) the availability of funds. The total project period for this award will not exceed 60 months. |
