The Bureau of Reclamation is offering this cooperative agreement to the University of California, Davis, to investigate the ecological factors influencing fish populations in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. This grant is for determining which environmental elements, such as water temperature, salinity, type and density of aquatic vegetation, and proximity to infrastructure, control the abundance and distribution of largemouth bass, a key predator. Additionally, the project aims to identify habitat factors affecting the native splittail, a species potentially warranting Federal and State Endangered Species Act listing. This significant research, valued at $529,691, will enhance understanding of crucial Delta fish dynamics to inform conservation efforts.
