Additional Information

Agency Name: Bureau of Reclamation
Description: Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) is working with Yakama Tribal Nation (Nation) to investigate potential effects of Reclamation facilities on adult and juvenile Pacific lamprey, and where appropriate, make recommendations for either further study or actions that may be taken to reduce effects on lamprey. The Nation has been a leader in identifying Pacific lamprey issues in the Yakima River Basin (Basin).

Reclamation and the Nation entered into Cooperative Agreement R11AC10069 September 26, 2011, to begin evaluations and recommendations for possible solutions to identified issues. That agreement expires June 30, 2015. This agreement identifies the continuing work to be completed by the Nation and Reclamation for lamprey.

Pacific Lamprey evaluation and conservation in the Basin is an integrated part of the Yakama Nation Fisheries Resource Management Program (YNFRMP). Through this program, the Nation is working to restore natural production of Pacific lamprey to a level that will provide robust species abundance, significant ecological contributions and meaningful. As the program managers, the Nation is the only entity with jurisdiction to collect lamprey in this basin as dictated by sovereign rights. This program is the overarching management program in the Basin under which the activities of this work are aligned.
