Description: The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) intends to issue a grant to University of California, Davis under the authority of catalog for domestic assistance (CFDA) 15.512, Central Valley Project Improvement Act, Public Law 102-575, Section 3406(b)(1) and 3407(e). Estimated total amount of agreement is $73,957.00. The purpose of the grant is to improve understanding of the physiology and behavioral ecology of delta smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus), a fish endemic to the San Francisco Bay/Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Estuary listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act. The principal objectives of this study are (1) To optimize and enhance existing techniques for stress and feeding assessments applicable to delta smelt; (2) Investigate the effect of turbidity, salinity, and temperature on feeding and stress recovery times in larval, juvenile, and adult delta smelt; (3) Utilize the above information to define the fundamental niche as determined by turbidity, salinity, and temperature.
