Additional Information

Agency Name: Centers for Disease Control – OSTLTS
Description: This project supports the operations and continuous improvement of a national accreditation program for state, tribal, local and territorial public health departments. The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is the only national accrediting body assessing public health services provided by state, tribal, local and territorial health departments. PHAB, a non-profit organization established in 2007, launched the nation’s first national accreditation program for public health departments in 2011. As of December 2017, nearly 70% of the U.S. population is served by a PHAB- accredited health department.
Support for the national accreditation program is critical at this juncture of its existence. Through this project, CDC will support the awardee to 1) promote, communicate, and provide education regarding accreditation; 2) evolve, improve, and/or develop new products, services and tools to ensure a relevant, current, and smoothly functioning program; 3) strengthen strategic partnerships to support and advance accreditation; and 4) strengthen the evidence base for accreditation and the use of accreditation to advance public health practice.
